A Practical Tip for Wearing a Mask with Glasses
If you have started wearing a mask during the COVID-19 outbreak and also wear glasses, you may have experienced the inconvenience of having them fog up. While you can wipe them off, this is only a temporary solution at best.
Now the medical journal, Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England has published a tip from two doctors who themselves are familiar with the problem. They explain that the lenses of your eyeglasses fog up as a result of your breathe traveling upward while you have a mask on; and while bothersome, the doctors say the fix is simple.
Start by thoroughly washing your hand with soap and water (remember the 20 second rule). Then wet your glasses and lather some soap right on the lenses rubbing gently but thoroughly until you feel the lenses have been completely soaped up and cleaned. Now take your time and rinse off all of the soap, and then dry with a clean towel.
The doctors say the reason this prevents your eyeglasses from fogging up is the soap and water “act like a cloak that reduces surface tension on the lenses.” The water molecules from your breath distribute evenly and your lenses stay clear.
